Biography
Visual artist Meri Peura was born in 1981 in Tampere, Finland. Peura studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki in 2006–2011. Since 2006 Peura has had solo and group exhibitions in Finland and abroad e.g. in Germany and Spain. In her works she often focuses on examining the nature of human being as well as the questions how people change the living environment or how far people may go while looking for one`s happiness. Peura works mainly with sculpting and installations. She uses all kinds of materials in her works, such as snow, beeswax, electronics, plants, metal, stone and junk. Peura has worked also in multi-art-groups with sound designers, musicians, scenographers and composers. Peura was awarded with graduating student grant in 2010 by the Finnish Academy of Fine arts. Since her graduating she has been granted by The Finnish Cultural Foundation, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, Alfred Kordelin Foundation and Finnish Arts Society. Peura lives and works in the middle of forests in Tervakoski, Finland. Arts, wild nature and nature conservation are major subjects to her.
